Migraines is so common that it affect around 14% of the population. It has so many different symptoms that it often confuses medical practitioners. The progress in medicine, however, has not provided an efficient treatment for this disorder and patients suffer long and badly, largely due to the misunderstanding of the mechanism behind the pain.
Chinese medicine has recognised this issue since ancient time. The proposed cause is due to wind combining cold or heat invading the head. If this cold antigen is not treated properly at the beginning, it will stay in the head. This hypothesis is proven by using acupuncture or/and herbs that expel the cold antigen out of head which produce satisfactory reduction of headache or even cute migraine.
The common used acupoints for migraines is Cuan-zhu, Tai-yang, Tou-wei, Ying-xiang, Feng-Chi, and He-Gu. The herb formulas can be Gui Zhi Tang, Gui Zhi plus Ge Geng Tang, Xiao Chai Hu Tang plus Cang er zi san.
